In-Search of Happiness

Updated: Aug 2, 2021

‘Materialistic Happiness’, this word randomly struck my mind while I was scanning for a short definition of happiness that bound me to ponder over it. But is this really what happiness implies? Can this be considered as the suitable definition of happiness? I know everyone will come up with their own views. I may be wrong according to some perception although I consider that happiness doesn’t come via materials. I believe it is related to our mind, our deeds and our craves. Yes, our craves and our deeds! They play the most vital role in today’s epoch. Let’s rewind our mind to our age of 3. Back in those days does anyone remember any incident where we encountered any situation that made us unhappy? Or had anyone of us craved for anything? The answer is simple ‘No’ isn’t that so? This is because those days we were satisfied with what we had and did what we love. No craving, nothing. Neither had we at any point compared ourselves to anyone else nor were we did anything against our likes. I am not saying that comparison shouldn’t be there; truth be told, the comparison must be there in all ways yet should be with oneself rather with other. Comparing ourselves with the previous we could empower us to rectify our mistakes whereas comparing our self to other sometimes might give us an impermanent happiness or sometimes sadness. I believe no one else can make us happy if we don’t want our self to be happy. The most straightforward approaches to be happy is to do whatever we want to do keeping aside people’s critiques, stop over thinking and stop craving for more. Indeed! Even history tells the inventors are successful in their inventions or discoveries because they did what they loved rather doing what they are bound to. If we go through the biographies of those inventors, we could find some similarities in between them and that is they all had opted their own track yet people around barked and criticized them. However, they maintained a distance from their criticism and proved them wrong by following their own way and did succeed in what they are best at. And by going on a different track they discovered their happiness.
